Atlantic City Historic Spots

Historic-Atlantic-City

While Atlantic City has become known as a major gaming destination, that is not all the area has to offer. Some visitors may come for the slot machines, but others head to Atlantic City for the day to enjoy the historic areas that the city can offer.  If you have never had a chance to visit the historic spots of Atlantic City, be sure to put these on your list for your next day trip!

The Absecon Lighthouse

Did you know that Atlantic City hosts the third tallest lighthouse in the United States? After you hike the 228 steps to reach the top of the Absecon Lighthouse, your reward is a 360-degree view of Atlantic City skyline. Absecon was restored in 1857, and there is a reproduction of the 1925 keeper’s house which contains memorabilia and antique photographs.

The Atlantic City Historical Museum

You can gain a full appreciation for the rise, fall and resurrection of Atlantic City in the Atlantic City Historical Museum. There are displays dedicated to political figure Enoch (Nucky) Johnson, the Miss America pageant and the very dapper Mr. Peanut. You also get a look at how Atlantic City turned into an entertainment destination, and you really gain an appreciation for the history and backstory to this seaside town. You can visit the museum for free between 10am-5pm.

The Historic Gardner’s Basin

If you charter a bus to Atlantic City, you have to add a visit to the historic Gardner’s Basin to your itinerary. The home to the Atlantic City Aquarium, this was once a smuggling spot in the 1920s. It’s also the departure point for several different boat tours, and the Back Bay Ale House is the perfect spot to enjoy an adult beverage on the dock.

Boardwalk Hall

Any visit to Atlantic City can’t be complete unless you take a stroll to the Boardwalk Hall (formerly known as the Atlantic City Convention Hall). From hosting the nation’s first indoor college football game, to hosting presidential nominations, Boardwalk Hall has an impressive history to accompany its impressive aesthetics.

Needless to say, you can make quite a day out of your chartered bus trip to Atlantic City!
