Must See Nominees for the Tony Awards

There are 30 awards given out at the Tony Awards and although we won’t know who the winners are until the night of June 7, it is still fun to see all the amazing Broadway shows that have received nominations. Really anything theater production on Broadway is worth seeing, but for the sake of time and money here’s a short list of the shows you can’t miss to gear up for the Tony Awards.

Nominated for six Tony Awards, including best play, this novel turned into play takes the audience on an eye-opening journey through the complex life of fifteen-year old Christopher. Hand to God

Written by Robert Askins, Hand to God deals with religion, curiosity, and creativity in a provocative way that has critics and theatergoers’ alike raving about it. It’s been nominated for five different awards.


Wolf Hall Parts One & Two

Nominated for eight Tony Awards, Wolf Hall Parts One & Two delivers a gripping performance of the court of Henry VIII. The play is based off the best-selling novels by Hilary Mantel and the play was written by Mantel and Mike Poulton.


An American in Paris

This play takes place in the aftermath of World War II, but it is focused on love and hope. It is nominated for 12 Tony Awards.


Fun Home

What has been called one of the most groundbreaking plays of our time is also nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including best musical. It is favorited to possibly win the most awards at the Tony Awards this year.


Something Rotten

This theater production has the professionals working behind it making it a must-see for this year’s Broadway season. It is a musical comedy about a musical comedy and has been nominated for 10 Tony Awards.


The Elephant Man

The Elephant Man is a classic play revived in this year’s Broadway season with some big names including Bradley Cooper, Patricia Clarkson and Alessandro Nivola. The play is based on the life of a disfigured British man who became the star of “freak show” circus.


On the Twentieth Century

It’s hard to go wrong with Kristin Chenoweth and this classical musical is nothing short of perfection. It is nominated for five Tony Awards.


This year the Tony Awards will be held on Sunday, June 7 and even though you’re not able to see the award show in person, New York City is still the place to be leading up to the Tony Awards to see all the shows that have received nominations.
