New Tourism Focus for New York City

nyc-tourismAs the summer begins to approach, many cities are gearing up for the tourism push that comes with the summer season. This summer season, those at NYC & Company plan to direct tourism in a new direction. While there are still the favorites of the city, NYC & Company hope that tourism begins to enter untouched districts of the city. With over 15 million visitors expected throughout June, July, and August, it shouldn’t be difficult to see both the old and the new when tourism hits New York City.

So what is the new tourism focus for this summer?

  1. The Whitney’s Meatpacking District Location- According to the Whitney website, the new building can be described as the following- “Designed by architect Renzo Piano and situated between the High Line and the Hudson River, the Whitney’s new building vastly increases the Museum’s exhibition and programming space, providing the first comprehensive view of its unsurpassed collection of modern and contemporary American art.”
  2. One World Trade Center Observatory- The One World Observatory opens at the end of May to provide the public with one of a kind panoramic view of the city. The building stands at 1,776 feet tall and is now the tallest building within the Western Hemisphere. The new Observatory will offer a deck for views, restaurants, and a number of different exhibits to provide visitors with a one of a kind experience.
  3. Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration- The new museum can be found in the main building of the once active immigration station. The station has been restored to its appearance of 1918 to help tell the story of those millions of immigrants who passed through Ellis Island to reach America.
